Just Call Me Cinderella

I've been on my hands and knees scrubbing the floor in my office today. I wish I had little singing wildlife critters and birds to help me out the way Cinderella did. The floor looks great, thanks to elbow grease, a teflon scrubby, and good old Murphy's Oil Soap. I scrubbed years of grime off that floor, and it is gleaming now.

Slowly, I'm moving furniture back into the room. My old poor excuse for a desk is in there, because I had to have some place to put the new computer equipment. I'll wait until tomorrow to get husband to help me lug the big ass file cabinet and book shelf back in. My goal is to have things back in the room and the house cleaned before my flight to training. I sure don't have much time, so perhaps not sleeping is in order for the next 24 hours.

We're going to see a marching band half time show tonight--two shows if we are lucky. Common folk call it a football game, but being a former band geek myself, I know that it's really all about the band. And that big hunk of grass out there, it's a marching band field. The band is just nice enough to let the jocks run around on it tossing a football and feeling all important! :)

Tick Tock

Time is running out--my free time, that is. In just 4 more days, I'll be back amongst the gainfully employed 9-5ers once again. I'm excited about that, and a little scared.

Work goodies continue to arrive daily at my front door. Good stuff came yesterday--a 4 in one fax/copier/printer/scanner. I've always had laser jets previously, but this one is a photo quality color ink jet. Hopefully it will work well. I'm excited that it has a flat bed scanner! I also got my BlackBerry Curve. It makes me feel stupid, so I guess I will have to run the tutorial to figure it out. The SIM card wasn't installed when the thing arrived. It was inside the phone but just rattling around. It was not obvious to me where the card went, and the manual was no help at all. After about 15 minutes of Googling, I finally found instructions for installing the card. I'd like to think that I'm really not that stupid, and that omitting instructions for this was just a mistake by the BlackBerry people.

Today, my laptop is supposed to arrive. I was hoping that it would be a MacBook, but that is highly unlikely! :) I'm also allowed to purchase a carry bag for the laptop, so a trip to TJ Maxx is definitely in order. I saw some really stylish designer bags there last week. I have some very utilitarian computer bags, but being a bag ho, if someone tells me I can buy a new one, I will do that!

Daughter's Sophomore class is fund raising to earn money to pay for Prom next year. They've sold homecoming t-shirts for the big game weekend, and they are having a cake raffle this weekend also. I'm going to make my famous (ha ha!) Kahlua cake. It's so yummy!!

Good Things Wednesday

Last night, husband hung the new ceiling fan in our home office. It looks great--short blades, ceiling hugging, and white so that it blends in. I need to pick up light bulbs for it, as we forgot to buy those. The old fan hung way down and had an ugly gold ball globe on it. It really made the ceiling look low.

I picked up the new paint (gratis, thanks to Lowe's excellent customer service), and painted the walls in the office today. We still need to do the trim work on the molding and paint the door. Husband is also going to paint the inside of the closet with some white paint to make it appear a bit brighter. The primer alone has improved the looks of the closet walls tremendously.

I am hopeful that we can get the furniture and things moved back into the office on Friday. My first official day of work is Monday, and even though I'll spend the first week out of town at training, I don't want to come home to the mess that is currently our home!

Once everything is in place, I'll take pictures to share. Right now, the card reader is goodness knows where, so I cannot get any pictures onto the computer.

Deliveries have been arriving steadily this week for work. I've gotten a big box of office supplies from Staples (our company's preferred office supply provider) and a box of letterhead envelopes. I don't have letterhead stationery yet, but maybe that will come soon. Something is coming via Fed Ex today, too. I'm not sure, but think this may be my computer equipment or at the very least my new printer. The good thing is that all these things are supplied by the company at no charge to me. Of course, if I were to leave this job, then everything would need to be sent back.

My travel itinerary and agenda for the week of training has also arrived--finally! I am a person who likes to plan ahead, and it seems that the travel arrangements were made rather last minute. Oh well. I'm very excited about the training and about meeting my co-workers.

I've signed up for a RAK group on Ravelry, and posted my first wish list this morning. Someone has already contacted me about sending one of the patterns I was wishing for, and I've been in touch with another lady about some needle felting wool she's looking for. I think this is going to be fun. I've participated in Secret Pals on line before, and those can be disappointing sometimes. RAK swaps seem a lot better, in my opinion.
