Congress and Lyndon Johnson enacted the laws establishing the present day Daylight Saving Time in the U.S. in 1966. However, the idea supposedly is attributed to Ben Franklin. Here's the website that tells all about Daylight Saving Time: http://webexhibits.org/daylightsaving/
I hate it too! I have to get myself and the kids up at 6:15, and just as it's getting lighter in the mornings we have to spring forward and it's dark again. It's hard enough getting up in the morning!!
